My research focuses on the temporality of art, especially in the way it was written and eternalized. My first project concerns the Ephemeral Art of Festivals during the 16th and 17th centuries, and more specifically, on the Northern tradition of the Joyeuse Entrée. My work on the 1599 Joyeuse Entrée of Albert and Isabella into Antwerp was concluded with a monograph, inquiring into theoretical problems of Ephemeral Art, such as the absent object and its realization in the written text (ekphrasis), as well as exploring its political agenda and aspects of civic propaganda. Following this study, I explored the transfer of the Festival tradition from the Netherlands to Portugal; the introduction of a universal discourse into the originally local tradition of the Joyeuse Entrée;  and the encounters between the visual, literary and the performing arts within it. More recently I perused this topic and examined the transference of the Triumphal Entry practice and imagery from the Old World to the New World (i.e. colonialism and Latin America). Another direction in my research is the visual rhetoric of the triumphal procession in five different subject matters (Ekphrasis, Utopia, Natural Magic, Marketing and Communication and Economy). My recent project concerns emblematics in Triumphal Entries, exploring the use of emblems as ‘visual footnotes'.
