The collection of papers contains thought-provoking essays written by sixteen theatre researchers delivered at the International Conference on scenography, "Patronage, spectacle, and the Stage", during the Prague Quadrennial 2003.
The contributions probe into the relationship between scenography and the existing conditions of the theatre; various forms of supporting and financing theatre activities and events and their influence on the formation of the theatre's aesthetics, ideological and operational aspects of scenographic creation.
